The Wahiba Sands are the Arabia of the imagination: great waves of golden dune, rippled by the wind and shifting colour from honey to deep amber as the sun moves across them. By night the silence is total and the stars come down to the horizon. It is one of the most accessible great deserts on earth, and one of the most beautiful.
We pair the dunes with the wider wonders of Oman — the green wadis, the old forts and souks of Nizwa, and the dramatic coast — staying in desert camps that range from charmingly simple to genuinely luxurious.
